Lesson planning

As our homeschooling year has progressed I realized that I greatly underestimated my children's ability to learn. I am now going back through and adding to the lesson plans that I had made for the second half of the school year.

Baby bakin'

I just thought I would share some pictures of my ever-growing belly and my sweet new crib. I absolutely love the crib that my mother-in-law gave us as an early Christmas present. I have been going stir crazy for the past month on bed rest. I am nesting and have had nothing to do but sit and make baby clothes. I feel so much better now that this beautiful crib is set up, drawers filled, blankets washed and ready for our new little bundle. Now if we can only find a name for her :)

Simple crocheted vest for my sweet grandmother

Row 1: Ch 3, sl st into first chain, ch 3, 3 dc in same st, *4 dc ch2* (repeat from * twice more. Sl st into ch 3.

Row 2: sl st in first two dcs, ch 2, turn , dc in next two sts, (2dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch 2 space (makes a corner) dc in each dc from previous row and form corners as above. Do not join to beginning stitch, instead, ch 2, turn, repeat rounds as many times as needed to obtain size.

This is a super simple pattern. You basically just make two granny squares (turning halfway through one side to leave a slit for the arm hole) and stitch them together. Just make sure you leave the last few stitches (I stopped with 10 stitches remaining) to make room for the neck. I added a couple cute buttons and just chained 6 then sl st to make loops instead of button holes.

This sweet best is so easy and you can adjust the size by simply making smaller (or larger) granny squares.

This little Totoro was so fun. We love the movies so much that we named our big fat gray cat Totoro. Recently my children started arguing over a stuffed Totoro that Darwin was given when he was a baby and June has been playing with since she was teeny. Darwin has now decided that he wants to keep it in his room so I made one for June for Christmas. Problem solved. Pattern can be found here.



We also love Wallace and Gromit. I actually started this little guy this summer for June's birthday but it was put on the back burner and picked back up to give as a Christmas gift. Look here for instructions.

Meet the Bashors

Everyday I piddle online and look at blogs (because there's not much more to do on bed rest). For a while I have been mulling over the idea of starting one for our family's adventures. So, here we go! My name is Katie, I have a big bearded husband named Stephen a 14 year old son named Darwin, a 7 year old daughter named June, and another daughter due this February. We live in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. We began our homeschooling journey in August 2012 and are loving (almost) every minute of it. We have three dogs(Cerberus, Persephone, and Elizabeth), two cats(Totoro and Nube), a bunny(Luna Lop), and about million snails. We love to garden, hike, bike, craft, and cook.  I think my little family is pretty swell and hope to be able to share our fun.
